It's a common refrain, and often, it involves a health resolution. Yoga is a popular choice, but it's also rife with misconceptions. Let's clear the air and start and settle some myths whilst you decide on the next steps for your yoga journey and get a fresh perspective on this beautiful practice.
1. "I'm not flexible enough to do yoga."
Wrong! Yoga is not about touching your toes (though that's a nice bonus). It's about the journey, not the destination. Yoga is a practice that builds flexibility over time. Beginners and advanced practitioners alike can benefit from a regular yoga routine.
2. "Yoga is just for women."
Wrong! While it's true that women are more likely to practice yoga, it's a practice for everyone, regardless of gender. Men can reap the same benefits as women, including increased strength, flexibility, and stress relief.
3. "I need to be thin to do yoga."
Wrong! Yoga welcomes people of all shapes and sizes. There's no "ideal" yoga body. Focus on what your body can do, not what it looks like.
4. "Yoga is just a workout."
Wrong! While yoga can be a great workout, it's much more than that. It's a practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation to promote overall well-being.
5. "I'll never be able to do that pose."
Wrong! Don't get discouraged if you can't do every pose perfectly. Yoga is a journey, not a race. Focus on your own progress and enjoy the process.
